Press Releases
During football season it appears that
the entire scarlet-and-gray draped town of Columbus,
Ohio knows what it means. On game days, the more than
100,000 fans crowding Ohio Stadium know what it means. Millions of alumni
and fans around the world know what it means. But none of them agree on
any one answer.
What It Means to be a Buckeye: Jim
Tressel and Former Buckeye Stars,
edited by Jeff Snook, examines the simple question - \"What is so
special about Ohio State football?\" - that is so hard to answer.
Immediately after OSU defeated Miami to win the 2003 National Championship, Tressel was
besieged by book offers. He was presented with 29 various options, but
selected only one that he felt encompassed the depth and breadth of
Buckeye football that countless fans everywhere are a part of. That idea
was to share the spotlight with the generations of players and coaches
who have defined the greatness, mystique, pride and grit of the OSU
program.
What It Means To Be A Buckeye allows the greatest Buckeye players and coaches from
the past eight decades to express why they are so proud to be a part of
the storied tradition that is Buckeye football.
Many players took this unique and
exclusive opportunity to set the record straight about a few topics that
have never before been addressed, including:
|
|
•
|
Rex Kern reveals what
happened in the bitter 1969 defeat to Michigan
|
|
•
|
Chris Spielman explains
why he almost chose Michigan instead of OSU
|
|
•
|
Cornelius Greene talks
about the real discomfort behind his ulcers
|
|
•
|
Joe Germaine details how
he gave President Clinton\'s Secret Service a scare
|
|
From Charlie Ream in the 1930s to Paul Warfield
in the 1960s and Jim Tressel last season, What It Means To Be A
Buckeye brings together a who\'s who list of OSU football icons in a
fashion that no other book has ever accomplished.
About the Author
Jim Tressel led Ohio State to its first national title in 34
years, guiding the 2002 Buckeyes to an unprecedented 14-0 record that
included a second consecutive victory over rival Michigan. He had previously coached Youngstown State to four Division I-AA National
Championships. Tressel, son of the late Lee Tressel (the legendary
Baldwin-Wallace head coach), was named the 2002 National Coach of the Year.
