The Story of America's Triple Crown
Thoroughbreds from Sir Barton to Affirmed
by Marvin Drager
Three races, a single victor. It sounds simple, but America's Triple Crown is a feat only eleven horses have achieved since 1875. It's one of the most celebrated accomplishments in sports, yet one of the least attainable.
The Most Glorious Crown: The Story of America's Triple Crown Thoroughbreds from Sir Barton to Affirmed by Marvin Drager (along with a full-length 100-minute DVD on the history of horse racing), delves into the history of each Triple Crown Champion, their jockeys, owners, trainers and specific accounts of each race leading up to their Triple Crown win.
The horses listed below each won the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes their respective year to become part of the elite group of Triple Crown winners:
Ø Sir Barton 1919
Ø Gallant Fox 1930
Ø Omaha 1935
Ø War Admiral 1937
Ø Whirlway 1941
Ø Count Fleet 1943
Ø Assault 1946
Ø Citation 1948
Ø Secretariat 1973
Ø Seattle Slew 1977
Ø Affirmed 1978
This updated version of The Most Glorious Crown includes the actual racing forms from each race of each quest for the Triple Crown. An entire chapter is devoted to each winner which chronicles their journey to victory and provides insight into the specific details of what it takes to win while also revealing the reasons why so few have had the good fortune of this rare honor.
Readers can relive the recent near-misses of fan favorites Funny Cide and Smarty Jones and the heartbreak that continually surrounds this sport. Despite the adversity, The Most Glorious Crown reminds fans why they continue to come back year after year in hopes that their favorite horse will bask in the glory and become part of this exclusive group that will be remembered for years to come.
