On September 9, 2007, while making his fifth career start, the Buffalo Bills TE lay paralyzed on the turf of Ralph Wilson Stadium. After making a hit on a kick return against the Denver Broncos, Everett suffered a catastrophic and life-threatening injury that caused a fracture to the cervical spine. Everett was diagnosed a quadriplegic by team physicians right there on the playing field and it wasn’t believed he would regain the ability to move ever again.
Everett is now telling his remarkable story in a brand-new book titled:
Standing Tall: The Kevin Everett Story, where he describes a challenge far greater than any NFL player has ever had to face – recovering from an injury that left him completely motionless. Standing Tall hits on emotional and contentious points, such as:
Four months later and after months of grueling rehabilitation, Everett has miraculously regained his ability to walk. His incredible recovery was the result of a very controversial medical technique where his doctor, Dr. Andrew Cappuccino, induced hypothermia to reduce the effects of the trauma to the injured spinal cord. In Standing Tall: The Kevin Everett Story, Everett takes the reader inside one of the most traumatic injuries and dramatic recoveries in sports history.
