The University of Oklahoma is one of the top public universities in the United States, known for their academics and athletic-esteem. The University, established in 1890, has continued to grow not only in size but, also, tradition. Their football team, the Oklahoma Sooners, have created a long lasting legacy for the University. Remarkable football players have played their hearts out at Memorial Stadium paving the way for future players, and showing them what it truly meant to be an Oklahoma Sooner.
Jeff Snook, author of 11 books on college football and an expert within the industry, has compiled stories from memorable Sooners who have made their mark in college football in Sooner Nation: Oklahoma’s Greatest Players Talk About Sooners Football (Triumph Books, November 2015). Snook divides the book by decade, exploring each relevant player who contributed to the Sooner legacy. The author shares with us how the Sooner program continued to thrive, regardless of inadequate athletic facilities and decline in enrollment due to World War II, as well as various other hardships. We journey with one-of-a kind head football coach Bud Wilkinson, as he leads the Sooners to victory, and we watch young boys start their college football career and graduate as young men. Highlights include stories and interviews of:
A descriptive and well-written look at the personalities that contributed to the battles and conquests on the gridiron of the Sooner Nation is a book every Sooner fan should read that provides a peek into the evolution of the University of Oklahoma’s everlasting football legacy.
