Author Biography
Bill Center covers the Padres for the San Diego Union-Tribune and is a back-up beat writer and a former national president of the Baseball Writers Association of America. He is the author of America's Cup '95, Ford Taurus in NASCAR, NASCAR 50 Greatest Drivers, NASCAR: The Thunder of America, and Ultimate Stock Car. He lives in San Diego. Tony Gwynn is a former right fielder for the San Diego Padres.

About the Author
Bill Center has been with The San Diego Union and the merged San Diego Union-Tribune since 1968. He has been a part of covering the Padres since 1981 and continuously now since 1995. He has always been in the role of back-up beat writer because he also covers other sports (motorsports, sailing, boxing, etc.). He was national president of the Baseball Writers Association. of America in 2002 and is the author of five books (America\'s Cup 1995, NASCAR: The Thunder of America; NASCAR\'s 50 Greatest Drivers, The Ultimate Stock Car, NASCAR: Ford Taurus), co-written two and collaborated on three. Bill is a resident of San Diego where he has lived since 1951.
