Curtis Granderson grew up on the south side of Chicago. He loved sports and was determined to become a successful athlete. But perhaps because both of his parents were teachers, he had an even stronger desire to succeed in the classroom. He loved learning for its own sake, and from an early age, the importance of education. Now an established Major League Baseball star, Curtis has not forgotten the lessons he learned growing up. These are lessons not only about the importance of education, but also about working hard to attain goals; lessons about character, integrity, and personal responsibility. In his book All You Can Be, Granderson shares these valuable lessons with his young fans. He has also invited fourth graders from across the state of Michigan to submit artwork that exemplifies their own goals, the best of which has been culled here to illustrate the themes of the book. This is not just a book for aspiring athletes, it is a book for any young dreamer about how he or she can develop the character to help them succeed, whether they want to be the next president of the United States, the best teacher in the country, or even the center fielder for the Detroit Tigers.

Curtis Granderson is a Major League Baseball player who has be the starting center fielder for the Detroit Tigers and the New York Yankees. In his short time as a professional baseball player he has established himself as one of the most electrifying talents in the game, both at the plate and while roaming center field. In 2007 he became one of only four players in baseball historyâ€â€Âand the first since 1957â€â€Âto record at least 20 doubles, 20 triples, 20 home runs, and 20 stolen bases in a single season. He is one of a handful of professional baseball players with a college degree, earning a bachelorâ€ââ€ΕΎÂ¢s degree in business marketing and business management at the University of Illinois, Chicago.

Today he is much more than just a professional baseball player; he’s also a college graduate.

In All You Can Be: Dream It, Draw It, Become It! by Curtis Granderson (illustrated by fourth-graders across the state of Michigan) Granderson shares the valuable lessons he learned growing up that were instrumental in his current success including:

Curtis shares his own personal stories about how he learned each lesson and was able to evolve and grow through every experience good or bad. Those valuable lessons are woven throughout the book along with artwork from fourth graders across the state of Michigan who were asked to submit a drawing that exemplifies their own goals for the future. The 29 winners are the illustrators for All You Can Be.
